Planning & Land Use Committee

Reviews projects seeking discretionary permits, takes positions on them, and invites developers into our construction monitoring program.

The Planning and Land Use (PLU) Committee plays an important role in reviewing proposed development projects within the boundaries of our neighborhood. We review proposed projects that are requesting a Zoning Variance or other discretionary permit.

We review the drawings and other documents to determine the nature of the requested variance and its impact, if granted, on the neighbors and neighborhood. We then meet with the project team and voice our concerns and suggested changes in exchange for our support. If a proposed project is too adversely impactful or out of character and the project team will not consider our requested modifications, we typically will not support the project. Our determination is communicated to our Neighborhood Council to be considered during the Council's review of the project.

We also encourage developers of "by-right" projects, meaning no variances have been requested, to meet with us so they can work with us on construction staging, parking and other issues that may affect the neighbors of the proposed project.
